The National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) has become a pioneering and profitable trailblazer. The Cirrus Fit for the Future transformation programme, helped them achieve this.

The challenge

NNL is the UK’s foremost source of nuclear expertise. In 2012, it defined a vision to deliver the best nuclear science and technology solutions in the world. Its core values of integrity, impact and innovation underpin this. NNL’s aim was to become a more commercial, people-centred, customer-focused organisation.

The solution

Cirrus designed a flagship, modular programme for M&S. Lead to Succeed provided challenging opportunities to develop leadership capability and aid succession.

Designed and facilitated to develop the skills and behaviours to transform culture

Championed by the senior leadership team, who became role models for behavioural change

Modules focused on self, team and performance leadership. Leaders were able to apply learning to real business challenges

Tailored to meet the needs of different groups of leaders. These included senior leaders, emerging leaders and line managers ‘learning to lead’

Role playing with professional actors explored challenging business situations in a supportive environment

Individual coaching to set personal goals and embed learning

New employer value proposition, created through a series of focus groups. This communicated the uniqueness of NNL and what the brand represents for employees

Learner portal provided rich learning and resources. These enabled employees to explore different career paths within NNL

Regular programme reviews to adapt to changing needs and ensure sustainable success
